kettle bells are used for strength and endurance training there's not really a call for them in bodybuilding. they are really good for building base to build on as all body weight training regimes are. I'm surprised they have
them in gyms, one of the biggest reasons fro some one to use them is to train at home or out doors.

as for using them as apposed to dumbells, why would you want to, If it ain't broken why fix it?

I don't think a gym could class it's self as a proper gym without kettle bells, imo. I have used them. They're ideal for doing lateral raises, shruggs, tri's, rows etc. they're well balanced and imo are better for doing these exercises.

On some kettle weights also the handle can rotate 360 deg. Which imo is better for doing lateral raises. Gives you more fluid action and takes strain out of balancing the weight.

I had a gym instructer show me a few workouts with them yesterday, i found them very difficult to balance when gripping them upside down and could can see how it could cause an injury to yourself as he was swinging it around in a figure of eight movement really fast, i had a go alot slower, will take some getting used to.

not wishing to cause an argument but, sill thing to say dont you think!!

kettle bells date back to Russia, they are very fashionable at the moment because the leisure industry
like to introduce/re introduce new things to keep the non consistent trainer interested and bluff people in to thinking there getting a whole new way of training. I could list a dozen bits of kits like wobble boards
and tension bands that come and go. bells and bars will always be here!! long live the iron!!

The russians are better than us tho at alot of things, just take a look at their arsenal. But going back to kettle weights you either love or hate em. I love em.

IMO I don't think they are of much benefit for bodybuilding, there are some exercises you can do with them which you can do just as asily with using a dumbell.

I use them quite a bit for turkish get ups, snatchs, kettlebell swings and clean and jerk etc.... I think your more likely to use them where you train for sport where you use core strength and explosive movements....

Don't quote me on this but I've been told by a 300 (great film!!) geek that as part of gladiator training/selection you had to do 100 turkish get ups with a stupidly heavy weight to progress to become a gladiator (not the itv version)........ the heaviest i've seen are 32kg and thats too heavy for me!

I think the 300 w/o is a myth. its not a building w/o at all. if you did it more than once a month you would no
doubt end up over training. its a work out that a gymnast that has no aspirations to grow in size and has been
training using there own body weight as resistance since they were a child would do. I think alot of budding bodybuilders belive the more you do the bigger you get. correct me if you disagree but this couldn't be further from the truth. its consistency and intensity not volume that will lead you to a body like a Adonis. the only way you
will arrive at your goal for these kind of w/o's is if you start aged 10 and follow them until your 20.

thats my two pennies worth on the 300 w/o

oh and as for the Russian special forces. pmsl I worked with them in a place far far away in 1999. lol what a
joke. was like being on the set of Monty pythons flying circus.

I dont use it, as far as I know its not for body building. If you are practicing MMA you can use it to build up strength.
