Creatine is a vital part of my regime, but not a stand alone supplement, i also use whey protein and zma. A big help with recovery and growth. Much has been written about how to use creatine, some say it should be cycled (i.e. loading, maintenance, off), others continue to take it day in, day out indefinately. I also know quite few gym goers who have had success with the the all-in-one supplements, like MM Cyclone or PHD Synergy.
After trialling many products, the most effective creatine for me is Gaspari Size-On Pre-Contest, its an intra-workout supplement, you sip it while you workout. It also contains protein, bonus! If you wanna drop weight also, switch to 6-8 small healthy meals a day (inc protein shakes), drink loads of water and don't skip on the cardio! Hope this helps...
